Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists of the 20th century.  The painter, sculptor, potter, printmaker, poet, and peace campaigner created works which had a major impact on changing the course of painting and sculpture in the 20th century.  Picasso was a principal player in the development of modern art. 

Born in Malaga, Spain Picasso visited Paris as a young man and eventually moved there in the early 1900s.  At the time, Paris was the center of European art.  Picasso was a man of great energy which took him in a number of different directions with his wealth of talents.  He viewed art as a way of expressing himself and created a number of different styles.  His unconventional approaches brought a feeling of freedom to his paintings and sculptures.  Picasso and his friends helped to progress some of the most important artistic developments of modern art.  One of the most revolutionary of these movements was Cubism.
